Rum Runners
Corny (Lino Ventura) is the captain of a rum running boat during the U.S. Prohibition era, which ended before talking pictures were introduced. In his spare time, he haunts his local cinema, and his favorite actress is the divine Linda (Brigitte Bardot). Through a series of accidents, he finally gets to meet her in the flesh, and woo her. Their romance is obstructed by his bosses and her other suitors, but they keep trying to spend time together. Finally, the demands of stardom intervene. Sophia Loren stars as Cesira, a devoted mother and a successful small business owner. When the Allies begin bombing Mussolini's Rome, Cesira and her 13 year old daughter, Rosetta (Eleonara Brown), travel by train and foot to the countryside where Cesira was born. The two women find food and shelter with other fugitives, and stand witness to some of the horrors of war. Resting inside of a Church, mother and daughter are discovered and gang raped by a cruel band of soldiers. Rosetta is traumatized, and temporarily becomes mute. The Doll That Took The Town
The "doll” in this Italian serio-comedy is played by bombshell Virna Lisi. Craving attention, Virna claims that she has been robbed and assaulted. Thanks to this artifice, she becomes a celebrity, and then a high-priced model. Her chickens come home to roost when three innocent men are arrested and charged for the non-existent robbery and rape.
